February 2001, Xeni Gwet'in 1st Nations Govt. Chief Rogers' Report:

It's been 10 years ago this month since I got in as the Xeni Gwet'in 1st Nations Govt. Chief; time sure flies. I would like to take this? time to say how honored I am to be your Xeni Gwet'in Chief for the past 10 years. You Xeni Gwet'ins are a great people to work for, thank-you for all your support.

Here are some highlights of the last ten years as chief since the 1991 Chief Election: 1991 forming of Xeni Gwet'in Enterprise; 1991 on going Nemiah Annual Rodeos & Mountain Races; 1991 forming of Nemiah Valley Stockmen's Association where Xeni Gwet'ins pay us their range fees, not to the Chilcotin Forest Districts (CFD); 1991 Nemiah Valley book by Terry Glavin; 1991 Chilko Lake Study Team Co-chair with Parks & Mines; 1991 Court Injunction against Carrier Lumber in the Xeni Gwet'in Trap line;

Henry's Crossing road block, May 7th,1992; 1992 Brittany Lake Forest Management Plan (BLFMP) started; 1992 vote on Chief & Councillor, 2 to 5 year term;

1993 Chief (Feb) & Councilor (June) Elections; 1993 name change of Nemiah Valley Indian Band to Xeni Gwet'in 1st Nations Govt.; 1993 Brittany Annual Gatherings started; 1993 signing of Ts'il?os Parks;

1994 Natasewed Joint Venture with Lignum; 1994 Xeni Gwet'in Annual Pow-wows started; 1995 Roadblock at Gwedzin; 1995 Tsilhqot'in Immersion School; 1995 1st vote was a 'yes' on BLFMP with rights of 1st refusal and 2nd vote 'no' because CFD took rights of 1st refusal away;

1996 Tl'ebayi Subdivision; 1996 BLFM & Strategic Operating Plan (SOP) and 3rd vote 'no' again; 1996 Natasewed Silvaculture training & jobs; 1997 two 'no' votes on BLFMP & SOP with TFP & Natasewed & Lignum, the only companies to log in Brittany. 1997, pulling out of Natasewed joint venture with Lignum.

1998 Chief and Council Election. 1998, joining with the David Suzuki Foundation and forming of the ?Inteniluyni Team. 1998 beginning of Xeni aboriginal rights & title court case against Ministry of Forest and Forest Companies.

1999, forming of the ?Eniyud Health Services, 1999 forming of Charlene William Daycare, 1999 Remedial Management Plan (RMP) under D.I.A. 1999 Fish Lake Proposed Mine Environmental Process starting which is now on hold for B.C. Election. 1999 the start of the ?Inteniluyni. horse back Trailrides & the building of 2 Strawbale Houses. 1999 starting of Eco-System Forest Analyst for Brittany and the trap line.

Year 2000 getting out of RMP; 2000 ?Inteniluyni starting off the Laundromat/Store/CAP (XG 2000) and the Traditional Camp Plans. The rest is also for the Year 2000: The start of micro wave telephones & internet hookups, Green house hydro power feasibility study, Revival of Friends of Nemiah (this started in 1989) and finally September 10, 2001 Brittany & Trapline Court Case date (although BC and Canada are trying to adjourn it). ?
